Main House & Artist Commons

Their motto was to keep it simple, to be debt-free, to build sustainably, and to live in harmony with the land.

We broke ground in the summer of 1981 clearing raw ground and building with locally-found organic materials, river rock, logs from the Grand Mesa, mud from up the road for the adobe bricks. Found and recycled materials were used for windows, doors, and other fixtures. Everything was customize-built, fabricated with ingenuity, and artfully considered,

Family and friends helped out along the way, but the bulk of the work was done, piece by piece by Janet and Steve.
Their enthusiasm, patience, and hard work is truly inspiring.

We aim to follow in their footsteps.
