Riachuelo (rryah-chweh-loh), Spanish for little creek, is a family-run property dedicated to the values of kindness and respect, stewardship and connection, creativity and wellness.
Custom built over four decades by our spirit guides, Janet and Steve Baird, the home is an homage to a vision that one can live simply and in harmony with nature —that creativity and ingenuity are bolstered by curiosity and patience—that there is joy in the process— and that the journey is made sweeter by staying in the moment and celebrating the people you meet along the way.
The Main House and Steve’s Shop are used for artist residencies in fine art, sculpture, writing, and other creative endeavors. The Guest Suite offers travelers a unique place to stay, and a portion of the lodging fees support the artist residencies.

Seeking elsewhere some
calm and quiet,
some monastic simplicity,
when all around
the clamor of morning
birdsong
or a surge of snowmelt
ruffling the air
with its enthusiasm,
these,
my sole distractions.
My responsibilities:
to feed and walk the dog,
whose return in unwavering
devotion,
return with interest for
simple duty done....
wipe up the spills,
dust the sills, a letter,
a few old songs.....
the door was always open.
